The highly specialized Zanocco SMI team of engineers is able to offer:

• construction of new anti-explosion systems (including adaptations or expansions)
• solutions, in the event of an explosion, to eliminate side effects, limiting plant downtime and minimizing production loss and damage to people and property
• tailor-made solutions for the different types of systems, preventing the occurrence of announced events, limiting explosions and isolating them with one of the four ad hoc systems.

EXPLOSION PREVENTION
The advanced explosion prevention systems supplied by Zanocco SMI are able to prevent the occurrence of events that could lead to early alarms.

Prevention through control, by analyzing, for example, an atmospheric sample to reduce the oxygen content, or by immediately intercepting sparks and smoke caused by an explosion, or by monitoring the concentration of flammable or toxic gases inside a The area… is essential to implement appropriate countermeasures in real time.

EXPLOSION ISOLATION

Anyone familiar with explosions and their aftermath knows that secondary explosions cause the most damage!
The mistake of protecting only the volumes or a part of the plant that is believed to be most at risk causes the explosion to be transported to other sections of the plant, becoming significantly more powerful due to the precompression effect. If this happens, even an explosion protection system has no chance of being effective. For this reason, explosion isolation represents an essential component in the development of explosion protection concepts.
Zanocco SMI engineers and developers guarantee a high level of safety by adapting the anti-explosion safety concept to the customer’s needs, paying particular attention to the management of insulation systems.
Depending on the technology used, the process can be restarted immediately after activation without downtime or repair costs.

VENTURE OF EXPLOSIONS

For industrial processes where it is necessary to adopt measures to reduce and control damage due to the occurrence of an explosion, Zanocco SMI offers venting devices of different types, suitable for discharging and conveying the effects of an explosion to a safe place, away from people and things (vent devices), or to be able to manage them safely even in internal applications or with limited spaces (indoor vent devices).

EXPLOSION SUPPRESSION

Explosion suppression systems are becoming increasingly important and widespread both for their reliability and for the possibility of guaranteeing rapid restart of protected plants and machinery even following an explosion.
The intervention times of the explosion suppression systems are of the order of milliseconds; thanks to optical or dynamic pressure detectors, the explosion is detected in the bud and suffocated by activating extra-rapid extinguishing systems.
The management and extinction of the explosive event in its initial phase allows the effects of overpressure and temperature to be efficiently dampened, thus guaranteeing not only the safety of people, but also limiting the structural stress on the protected equipment to a minimum, at in order to protect the integrity of the production plants.

The reliability and functionality of the protection system components is continuously monitored by the protection system management centre, which is designed to guarantee a reliability level equal to SIL 2.
The development of new extinguishing agents (powders with FDA requirements, extinguishing systems using hot water technology), together with the development of nozzles suitable for CIP and SIP cycles, guarantee the diffusion of these systems even in areas with extremely high hygiene requirements, such as the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Zanocco SMI takes care of every single aspect during the design and construction phase, offering:

■ accurate inspections to evaluate the activity by identifying the areas exposed to the risk of potentially explosive atmospheres
■ classification of areas at risk based on the probability and duration of the presence of explosive atmospheres (Art. 290 of Legislative Decree 80/08) and subsequent subdivision of the areas as required by law (zone 0, zone 1 and zone 2 for gases, vapors or mists and zone 20, 21, 22 for dust)
■ evaluation of existing systems and the possible possibility of increasing their safety level through organisational, procedural or technical measures
■ drafting of the document on protection from explosive atmospheres (Art. 294 of Legislative Decree 81/2008), in accordance with Directive 99/92/EC
■ shared design with the customer to plan every detail of the new system.
